It’s become clear to me the only way we’re gonna get ahead is collective action/pooling resources- who wants to co-house with me?

Post Body

Long post; feel free to skip to the last paragraph to see my plan for a community My partner and I spent the last year trying to do it the old-fashioned way. I got a decent paying job, we got an apartment together, and we tried to just put our heads down and work and save money until we could buy a house and do what we really want to do. (I wanna be a writer and he does music production) Couldn’t even make it a year. Our lease is up in three months and Friday is my last day at work. My various mental illnesses (anxiety, depression, adhd) make a traditional job really difficult, and the job made my mental illnesses totally unmanageable. I’ve had no energy to do my writing on the side, so I know if I were to keep this up I would be miserable and also making no progress towards my true goal. We saved a bit if money, but not much, not really enough to to buy a house on our own. We’re getting desperate. I know a bunch of other people have gotta be in the same boat. People tell us the solution is to just work hard at a job for a while and work on passion projects ob the side, but I think that mostly works for people in STEM industries, and people who already have a lot of experience. For everyone else, even if you’re frugal, life takes up most of the paycheck and there’s no time/energy for passions and hobbies at all. The only way to get ahead is either get incredibly lucky, borrow money and hope you’ll be able to pay it back, or pool resources with other people. If you’re in the same boat, here is my proposal; we all go in together to buy a fixer-upper apartment building/condo outright some place dirt cheap. After that, we each own our own apartments, so anyone can sell their apartment and leave anytime. Meanwhile, we all just do our best to get along and support each other. A few necessary requirements; everyone needs a few thousand saved up already. If we could each pitch in the same amount that would be great. My partner and I were thinking we get several people to pay 5,000 each. We’ve found livable (although rough) houses for as little as 20,000 in Cleveland and Pennsylvania and Iowa. If you have remodeling skills we can go really cheap, unfortunately all my partner and I can do is whatever we can look up on youtube, so we’re looking for places with plumbing, wiring, a solid roof and foundation already. Also, it’d be best, (unless you have some place in mind near you) if you don’t have ties to any specific place and are willing/able to move anywhere in the country, including the middle if nowhere or sketchy areas (beggars can’t be choosers). Also, this will only work if everyone is mature, patient, and kind, or living in the same building would be hell, and we all gotta trust one another. Ultimately, this community would be mostly for financial purposes, and not have any sort of overall dogma. But we’d like to build a community that’s accepting of all different races, sexual orientations, gender identities, and mental abilities. If we could all make art together/ share our work with one another and workshop it, that would be fantastic. A laid-back atmosphere is also the goal. My partner and I are introverts and don’t have the energy for really high maintenance people (not that high maintenance is bad, it just is) however, a lack of community and social interaction is a huge factor in mental illness, so it’d be nice to find people who want to binge shows/ go dancing/ have snowball fights too! If you’re interested dm me please, I’d love to workshop this idea
