I was diagnosed with chronical insomnia recently.

I'm not happy to have it, but at least now my friends and family treat it as a real illness (which it is), instead of saying "Oh, you just work too much", or "You're just too nervous" or "You just use gadgets too much".
Another thing that helps me to convince others is that I'm Russian (And so are my friends) and I use the English word for insomnia, instead of the russian, which is "bessonitsa". I heard doctors do it, and noticed that it somehow makes it sound more formal.
