Feedback for the Xolotl/Lunar Boss Event
Post Body

Recap
A week ago people discovered an additional location past Aphelion Shrine which can only be accessed by getting a Lunar Key from the nearby Lunar enemies. Inside was a boss with 6500 HP, after a few days it was obvious it wasn't going to be easy to beat it.
Fast forward to yesterday, another event happened in which a meteorite crashes into the desert.
A "NPC" called Herald of Xolotl gave a few pointers as to what we should do:
1. Gather all the ores that can be harvested from the crash site.
2. Choose a player who would get a weapon forged from the majority of ores to defeat the lunar boss.
So far so good, everyone is excited and working together, Jim made a strawpoll to decide the chosen one by asking anyone who thinks they should be chosen to pm him. Few minutes later Eradomens(from Wild Potato Roots) is highest voted to wield the weapon. Most players started passing the ores to Era and potato group players, agreeing to get this over with.
Guess what?
Badbot (BB) and Scary Terry comes in and thus begins the salt fest. Here's a few things they did :
- Threaten Era in PM about destroying his group BECAUSE he was the one voted. (And once Era points that out in global chat, BB starts talking about privacy and his typical "woe is me" , i'm the scapegoat bullshit).
- Starts calling out everyone on being idiotic for voting Era and saying that voting based on popularity is stupid.
- Said that they (Fleet) should be the ones to get the weapon, because they were in the crashsite 20 minutes before anyone else even showed up.
Fun fact: the location was given 5 minutes before majority of the players were there, so unless they had cough inside info cough there was no way that happened.
- Dridend also starts asking to buy all the ores off Zexal in location chat, constantly bugging him to sell it for his Thorn. When Zexal denied, Dridend starts saying about how his Thorn was worth a lot blah blah. While this is happening, global has pretty much entered full drama mode, with BB repeating the same nonsense over and over again with no progress being made.
Why bother posting this?
Initium is pretty player driven, most events including this one requiring players to work together to unlock new locations (Spargus, Volantis, etc.)
I'm going to be clear here that i appreciate everything the devs have done, I might be relatively new to the game but I love it and the dev interaction here is massive. By requiring a majority of the ores to create the weapon, you're promoting teamwork between everyone regardless of groups. But all it takes is for a few players to refuse and progression would be halted for a few hours. I speak for myself when I say its not enjoyable at all trying to reason with these players.
I'm not sure what the suggestion is here, to have future events be less "grindy"? Or not have player decided roles/actions? Both aren't very good suggestions since it'll make things blander, but I'd still take it over the ridiculous amount of crying/drama.
How did the event end?
I left while the drama was still going on, while most groups were already giving the ores to Era. But when I returned almost half a day later asking how the event went, what did i find out? Someone(STEGO) had a script to autoloot the drops when the Lunar Boss died, and Era gets a title which he didnt get to keep since it didn't work well with PMs. What did everyone work together to achieve? All that cooperation, even the arguments ended up achieving nothing.
The devs are strict on certain scripts/bots, but why is autolooting allowed? Or more clearly, why are players who didn't deal significant damage to enemies allowed to pick up drops? Someone came up with the idea to lock item drops to whoever dealt the highest damage for a certain amount of time, regardless of any mobs. The only downside i could see would be alt farming being a little more strenous.
Yes, I am salty. When i saw everyone so excited about the event and each red text, i was happy that so many people were working together for a common goal. But all that work done and the rewards are given to a guy who had the time to get a Lunar Key and use autoloot to pick up the drops. And i don't suppose there would be a new area coming out behind Aphelion Shrine?
