I’m sick and tired of seeing these stereotypes for INFPs all over the internet, essentially saying the same incorrect things over and over.
Not all of us are overly emotional and cry over every little thing. Rather, we tend to experience our emotions much stronger than other people. When we’re sad, it’s intense. When we’re happy, it’s just as powerful of an emotion.
We aren’t all sunshine and rainbows all of the time. No, we aren’t naive to the cruelties of this world. We just choose to focus on the beauty of it instead of the hate.
On a related note, we aren’t overly optimistic all of the damn time. Personally, I tend to be more of a pessimist. People see INFPs as these happy go lucky people who are incapable of handling the darker aspects of life. Like we’ll just break down and cry over it. It’s really annoying.
Just because we are a feeling type doesn’t mean we can’t be logical, practical thinkers. INFPs are typed as quiet and soft and submissive, but for most, it couldn’t be more opposite. Just because we tend to avoid conflict doesn’t mean we can’t handle it. If it comes down to it (usually protecting our morals, values, or the people we care about), you better believe we’re gonna get it done. Our heads are NOT in the clouds 24/7 and we are not aloof little things that need things dumbed down to us. Stop pretending like all INFPs are weak.
And finally, STOP ASSUMING ALL INFPS ARE ARTISTIC BY NATURE. Yes, I know, creativity is one of the defining traits of an INFP. But that doesn’t mean they’re all descendents of fucking Picasso. Creativity can be expressed in multiple ways, even if it’s just in one’s imagination. I have a very vivid imagination, but I don’t have an artistic bone in my body. That doesn’t make me any less of an INFP.
Basically, stop stereotyping INFPs, or all MBTI types for that matter, based on the surface-level definitions and traits. The truth is that literally every single person on this earth is different. I’ve seen way too much stereotypical rep for INFPs that is so off from the truth it’s insane. Unfortunately, I’ve seen this for almost all the types, but it’s extremely prominent with INFPs. They’re all seen as exactly the same, and it drives me insane. Please, if you’re not an INFP, don’t type cast them all as a soft crybaby who can’t handle anything but daydreaming and expressing themselves through art!
I can definitely say that I'm not gifted artistically.
