I (M22, ENFP) recently went through a breakup with someone I strongly believe is an INFJ (F22). Our relationship lasted for two months, but it felt very meaningful to me. She showed a lot of interest early on, but after some personal family events, she distanced herself and ultimately decided to end things. She mentioned she needed time to heal and wasn't ready for a relationship right now, but she left the door open for a possible friendship in the future.
As an ENFP, I struggle to fully move on without clarity, and I’ve tried my best to communicate my feelings respectfully while respecting her need for space.
My question to you INFJs:
- Is it typical for INFJs to retreat like this when overwhelmed, even if they were deeply invested in the beginning?
- When INFJs say they need to "heal alone," does that mean there’s no chance for reconnection, or is there a genuine possibility of interacting again when they’re ready?
- How can I, as an ENFP, respectfully stay open to future interactions without overstepping her boundaries?
- Do INFJs tend to follow through on statements like “we can be friends again when I’m ready,” or is this more of a polite way of closing the door?
I’ve been reflecting on our relationship and want to grow from this experience while staying hopeful about the possibility of friendship (or more) in the future. I’d love to hear from INFJs about how they navigate these situations and whether you think reaching out after a long time would ever feel welcome.
Thanks in advance for your insights!
