My take on the current game

Chances are that you already have your own opinion of the September patch of IC, and you care little about what I have to say about it, but I have heard only 2 ways to view it: It's godly, having everything that you could want, or it isn't worth playing still. So I took a day to play for myself and make my own judgement on how to perceive the current and future state of the game.

Quick background on me: Started playing IC about a year ago, been on several different teams, played in several different tournaments which include PAX east, and stopped playing about two months ago because of the infamous freeze.

These opinions are based on six Gotham Divided games, played from either the top lane or jungle position.

What has changed: Several champions either had their ratios and stats tweaked or have been almost completely reworked, like Batman or Shazam, along with two new champions released. Most items have also been changed, along with in game and champion splash art work. The UI also had a complete overhauled rework. FPS issues have also been fixed (though I played on a far better computer months ago, so it was about the same for me).

What hasn't: Queue times are still long, assuming you don't consider 10 minute queue times that much of an improvement over 30 minute queues. Matchmaking rating is still seemingly nonexistent, as I have played games with players with team tags and players averaging a death every 90 seconds in the same game. Which would mean that the game still lacks a player base to even support a ranked system.

What has changed for the worse: I'm absolutely not bashing anyone here, but the general consensus from people outside of the competitive scene either think it has gotten worse or don't follow it. Players in the scene think it is as strong as ever. The differing opinions shows the weakness and demotes the longevity of the game as a competitive game. If no one watches or follows it, it's going to die, even though there will always be players to pick up for teams.

What has yet to be seen: If there will be an increase to the player base. I'm assuming people (such as myself) are going to come back or come for the first time to check out whats what. IC needs these players to stick if it wants to live on. After all, players are content for other players. Changes that are shorter but are closer together also need to happen. That means the game needs a consistent champion release schedule again and if there is another flop in the meta because of a change (remember the double and triple gambit start meta?) it needs to be fixed not in five weeks, but much much sooner.

Overall, the September patch didn't blow me away, nor live up to the hype. It isn't, however, a complete failure. Mistakes have been corrected, but in my mind, these are mistakes that never should have happened in the first place. If Turbine can capitalize on the surge of players right now, there is hope for this game still. But it relies on consistent design and marketing to breathe life into the game. If they can't, I fear that this is the beginning of the end. If they can, it will defeat other small MOBAs, though even then I personally doubt it will compete with MOBAs made by already established companies. Still, it's still a step into the right direction.

TLDR; The September patch is good, not great. It's worth playing a game or two if you are interested, and there is potential for the game to grow.

If you have questions of any kind ill answer them to the best of my ability in the comments.

P.S. attack damage assassins are over powered right now, just play those in soloq.
