Hello Visiting Trainers! I hope you are having a wonderful time in our city!
Please utilize the sidebar links. If you use Mike's map to find rare pokemon on a live updating map, please consider donating. There is a specific gencon discord server for you to use. I believe it is to coordinate raids but I have not used it myself as I am not going to GenCon this year. We also have a very active Indianapolis Discord server, which is used to coordinate raids, so you might prefer to use that one instead of using multiple servers. It's really up to you. There is also a discord server that helps to alert you of rare pokemon in the downtown area based on the live updating map mentioned above.
If you have any questions about gen con or the city, the welcome to gencon visitors thread on r/Indianapolis may be helpful to you.
The canal is a great 5km loop for catching water pokemon. You'll find at least one other person playing pokemon go basically any time of the day or night. The monument is also a pretty popular hot spot, as well as the War Memorial. These areas are fairly safe at all times of the day and night.
If you are looking for parking, there is paid parking across from the convention center, in the circle center mall parking, and below the state museum. Our city is very easy to walk. If you are looking for free parking, Street parking is free after 6 PM on many streets and 9 on some others (Mass Ave in particular) and the black boxes where you pay will tell you at which time parking becomes free.
Ask any questions you have here! Please enjoy our city! Happy Hunting!
Edit: I took a look at the crime map and there actually doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to where crimes occur right now, and there aren't very many crimes. A lot of the crime seems to be concentrated around places with bars, so if you're drinking just keep an eye out. Indianapolis is pretty safe really, as u/spocxli pointed out, especially with the large number of people who will be out and about, so you really shouldn't come across any trouble. I just want you all to stay safe! Also by crime, I mostly mean thefts more than anything that would pose a physical threat to you, so keep your cars locked and all that jazz.
