Hi r/Indonesia
I visited Indonesia back in July and August and I began to take a liking to it. Since visiting, I've been learning more about the language and reading about the different cultures and customs. Honestly I'm surprised with as much history the country holds, no one in the western world (U.S. anyway) talks about it. It's fascinating.
Anyway, I've been wanting to work outside the U.S. for a while now and have spent the last year researching different countries that interest me while I'm in school for cybersecurity, which I'll get in a year or two along with the necessary certs. I'll have to stay with the company I'm with for a year, since they are paying for it. Currently, I work as a designer for a company that makes aircraft carriers, but I hate AutoCAD/drafting which isn't what I went to school for (associate's in electrical engineering technology/telecommunications network engineering). It pays well, but ready for something different. So, I'm looking at 3-4 years from now.
So, before I settle on a place, I figured why not ask and gather information in the meantime about the field I'm going into. I only plan to leave for 6 months to a year before heading back.
- So, what's the Tech scene like?
- Work wise, how common is it to see expats in the IT Industry?
- I read up on what the work culture is like, and it doesn't look too much different that what I'm used to. So, whats that like?
- Already working on a Net (Just finished a class for that), Sec and later on CySA . How useful would these be? In the states and a few other countries, I know that as long as I have these, I'm good, but I know some places want you to have other certs as well.
