Edit: We are not from Indonesia and we have only visited Batam island for one day back in 2008/09.

She is going to attend a seminar for 2 weeks and we wanted to know how she can make the most out of her stay there.

How do people usually travel going to Semarang? And which is nearer- a flight from Jakarta or a flight from Bali?

Can anyone suggest where she can go after her seminar?

What should she avoid and not do or watch out for (are they strict with dress codes?)?

What food should she try and what restaurants or places to eat?

How much are the fares? Can someone provide a half day or a full day itinerary? What are must see places? And what are the must buys?
