Hello r/Indonesia,
I was recently in Flores travelling to see the Komodo Dragons and islands of the Komodo National Park. We organised a 3 day tour of the area and islands, and the company employed a local experienced guide for us.
The guide was absolutely amazing and went way above and beyond our expectations. Naturally we decided to tip him, after 3 days with us, we thought a generous tip would be 200,000 IDR. And that's what we gave. We know he doesn't earn a whole lot and that this will basically go towards his kids and their schooling. And even if it doesn't, he's a good honest guy and deserves it.
But I just wondered - is 200,000 IDR a generous tip? We wanted him to open it and be surprised and really happy with his tip. Would this have been achieved? We are paranoid it was too little. So hard to judge!
Thank you!
