I recently saw the web series Half CA and I really enjoyed it. I often enjoy thinking about the reasons I like a movie or TV show after I have seen it and so thought of sharing some of the reasons I really liked it with the community here.
Awareness of CA Process -
I had studied Science in 12th and had gone on to pursue an engineering degree and career. While I do enjoy it, I love knowing about the requirements and career paths of different fields. That's why I love interacting with people in different professions that mine. It often opens my eyes in new ways.
My father is also a Chartered Accountant, and while I knew it was a difficult exam, I got an exact breakdown of the process.
- CA Foundations
- CA Intermediate - Two groups of 4 subjects
- 3 years of Article ship
- CA Finals - Two groups of 4 subjects
I was particularly fascinated to know that this is not a competitive or rank based exam. It has a mark or percentage cut-off. I believe you must score 40% in every subject and 50% aggregate to pass.
I was quite fascinated to learn about this new world.

Hard working people driven by dreams
I am somebody who is very driven by love and passion for my field. I love the idea of being a lifelong learner, of attaining mastery of skills by continual effort. I love the idea of just doing something out of pure love and passion and receiving 'flow' from the effort of continuous effort. I love the idea of being the best in the world or at least world class and learning all the time.
Unfortunately a lot of web series and TV shows (especially about engineering) show young people who are not interested in the field and are pursuing it out of pressure or are sometimes very good at it but do not love it.
I really loved that about this show. It shows youngsters who have dreams in their eyes and are working hard out of their own inner passion. They do not have financial pressure or even parental pressure but are truly motivated from within.
Seeing characters like this made me very happy.

No love triangles or even love interests
This is something I loved even more. The children were so simple and down to earth. A lot of shows just show college kids getting into bad habits like drinking, smoking, misbehaving with parents and on a downward spiral. While these things do happen, they're not a complete representation of everybody.
I loved how innocent and nice these college kids were. All they wanted to do was participate in their college extra curricular activities apart from attending classes. (I must say as somebody who studied engineering, I loved how light the workload of B.Com was ! They must love their college life so much !)
I really love it when there are friendships between people of different genders that are not romantic and don't even have unrequited feelings from other sides, because that is something that I can relate to. Contrary to a lot of popular sayings, men don't have feelings for each of their female friends.
And at that age, they should be more focused on studies and building their lives than getting into love triangles and they absolutely delivered !
At first, I thought the web series would show a love triangle between the girl's childhood friend and a new friend she met at the college or a new friend who shares her interest in becoming a CA from her coaching, but to my utter delight - all these interactions were completely platonic. Not only that, the guys had no competitive toxicity towards each other and were so nice to each other.
I really like it when men are supportive and nice to each other instead of competing or fighting over women.
I really liked how this show eschewed the love triangle and instead replaced it with very wholesome friendships and relationships.
A big thumbs up to this show !
