How do you navigate the toilet paper culture? What are my options?

Hi! I hope to move to the US (NY) for my PhD starting this fall. This might sound trivial to some, but I'm kind of terrified of the shift from jet spray/bidet to toilet paper. Just the thought makes me sick, and I'm certain that I can't live without washing myself immediately after. I'm told that taking a shower and using a mug at home are my options, but also that I should get used to toilet paper ultimately.

What are my other options here? How much would it cost to get a bidet installed? And if you'd like to share some experience regarding this that you think will ease my worry, feel free to share, thanks!
