Every Diwali we go back to our age old debate of whether we should burst crackers or not. Well, I myself have not burst any crackers since 2015 and I never felt the urge to feel superior for my choice nor did I find it worthwhile to preach why others should stop that too. It was that year when I was going through some stuffs and decided to be alone on my house terrace watching over the city during Diwali. The pollution I witnessed that night was enough for me to call the quits.
But now I always see people quarreling over whether to burst crackers or not. We can all keep aside the religion and beliefs side of the discussion for a minute. We all know Diwali brings pollution, however, we cannot deny that fact that that is the only reason. So we cannot blame just one festival for all the problems.
Why canβt we just come to a middle ground and have an odd-even solution for this? Every even years we burst crackers and during odd years not do so.
Now I know you will grab my collar if I mention something like this, but hey, why cant we be creative about this? During the odd years we can have drone shows, we can look for alternatives like color bombs that can be used during the daytime and much more.
Why cant we fight climate change creatively? One ban that is good for the climate can bring in the need for us to find environment friendly solutions.
