On the topic of dogs...
Post Body

Hey /r/india. I'm a white dude who doesn't really have any Indian friends, and I don't really know where else to get an answer to questions on the topic, so I come to you.

I live in Plano Texas, and there's a very large Indian community here. I'd say a good third to half of my apartment complex is Indian. And nearly every single Indian person I've encountered is hostile to my dog.. She's a very friendly border collie/Brittany mix and weighs just over 13kg (not very big at all). She does all kinds of tricks and loves nothing more than impressing humans. It's what she was bred for.

Every encounter with any of my Indian neighbors has always gone badly. The majority of the time, people just avoid me and her by turning and walking the other way as soon as they see us, sometimes pointing in the process. I thought it was me at first but then I realized that everyone is VERY friendly when I don't have her with me.

A few times we've come around a corner and she's gotten very close to someone. I've had one neighbor drop everything he was carrying (laptop bag, folder full of papers, smartphone that he was having a conversation on) and scream. Once a mother and child literally ran away screaming and crying (her screaming, daughter crying as a result). She didn't bark or bite or show any signs of aggression. I have seen grown men shriek and dance around in full on panic because she walked within a meter of them. Is this a localized phenomenon or does fear of dogs exist throughout Indian culture?

TL;DR: Are all Indians afraid of dogs or just the ones near me?
