[NP]Netflix just sent a letter to the FCC demanding the corporation outlaw data caps for home internet connections. Do you feel that we need something similar in India, except maybe from civilians instead of big companies?

Netflix's letter to the FCC decries the entire idea of using data caps as a way of squeezing out more money from consumers (with companies like AT&T even marketing their cable services as an alternative in what is widely complained as a blatant abuse of monopoly.) The letter can be read in its entirety here.

The central idea of the letter is pretty much this:

Data caps (especially low data caps) and usage-based pricing (‘UBP’) discourage a consumer’s consumption of broadband, and may impede the ability of some households to watch Internet television in a manner and amount that they would like. For this reason, the Commission should hold that data caps on fixed-line networks–and low data caps on mobile networks–may unreasonably limit Internet television viewing.

While the whole 'monopoly abuse' isn't rampant around India in that way, the fact remains that ISPs overcharge for very weak data caps, and the post-FUP is miserable, at best. For instance, my BSNL 8 Mbps DSL internet is charged ~1400 (with taxes) rupees for 60 GB, and when I went to inquire about higher data plans, I distinctly remember the employee saying something along the lines of 2500 (before taxes) or so for 175 GB.

While the situation does vary across the nation, there is a need to remove the concept of data caps from home internet usage in this day when YouTube, Netflix and other streaming sites are making bigger splashes in entertainment consumption each day and when gamers are moving (either by their own will, or lack of choice) to digital distribution, with games nearing or exceeding 40 GB per title.

To that end, I ask you, people of /r/india, do you feel it is time we civilians took up action and petitioned our local MPs, the TRAI or perhaps even the Prime Minister to remove data caps from home usage?

Oh, and one other thing: I am actually thinking about writing a letter to one MP who I have met before, with a copy for the PM (if that is even possible).
