I really hope this is the right place for such a question.
I’m a foreigner who came to India for medical treatment. I am leaving to go back home soon (have been here for 1 month), but will be returning at least once more - possibly twice - over the coming year until treatment completion.
The senior Dr. in charge of the hospital and my treatment has been…not so great. It is due to his junior staff/Dr that I have stayed and continued to pursue this relatively aggressive and quite painful treatment. He has been a godsend. I see this as a theme at this hospital as this Dr. essentially carries the burden of daily operations almost single-handedly while his mentor is only in typically one day/week. He’s made house calls for me on days off, taken me to get tests when needed, purchased supplies for me out of own pocket (and refused to allow me to pay him back several times, claiming the hospital will do so — which I sense they won’t as they’ve not asked me for the money for those extras), and so much more.
Anyhow, I would really like to show my appreciation and give the young dr an appropriate gift without going over the top or putting him in a weird position with his superior as I don’t intend to getting a gift for the senior Dr.
What’s a good india gift idea for such an occasion? Do you go with personal or cash?
I don’t know much about him on a personal level. I know that he works a lot, he’s mid-30’s, plays cricket, is recently married and that they just completed pachakarma(?).
Any ideas or tips on do’s/don’ts on this realm would be most appreciated. The last thing I want to do is bring any awkwardness (from his boss) upon this gentleman.
