Post Body

Hi there,

Here a ol nasty piece of caveat before I begin writing this :

- I. Am. Moving. If the reasons why I'm doing that are salient to you, here is my post https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueOffMyChest/comments/110qf9r/what_is_with_the_borderline_xenophobia_towards/ about my reasons for doing so, and I'm saying this to say if you have it on your mind to implore me to "make things work" as someone did in the aforementioned post scrolling by is a much more resourceful use of your time, believe me. I'm done justifying my benign choices to others.

Now let's get it started.

I'm in my early 20s, I did 3 years of (British) college and one of the two qualifications I have from that is in Light Automotive Maintenance and Repair and then I did and passed a year at a (pretty prestigious) University in a Humanities subject. I've had one job in a restaurant albeit a placement job that lasted 6 months. I am very ambivalent about being able to get work of any kind in the US so I have instead turned my attention to studying there. If there are those who think it's possible for me to find work there, let me know. I have been floating between looking at Universities and Community College but I am partial to Community Colleges because I have seen that they seem to be less expensive and more accessible for Immigrants but I am unsure how true that is, on top of me probably studying an automotive course as this seems to be an industry I am most likely to get work in after finishing my studies. The reason I am applying for universities here is because the level of the course I did at College had to be higher for me to apply to study at a University here, in addition to me being specifically interested in autobody schools as opposed to holistic automotive education.

I'm in the process of looking at applying to Community Colleges in the following states

- Michigan - This is the state I'd ideally like to move to but I currently don't drive and while I am able to use some of my savings for driving lessons, the cities I looked at are Lansing, Detroit and Grand Rapids and it seems like Detroit is the only place in which driving is a must.

- New York - This is also a place I'd love to study but I am ambivalent about the cost of living and my chances of getting into any higher education establishment there.

- Washington (West Coast) - I came across a college in Seattle called Highline College and the tuition fees are a lot lower than some of the other places I looked at, but I'm unsure how notable this is for immigrants to go there.

- California - Some of the cheaper community colleges I came across are also based here, but I am again ambivalent about how likely it is to get into community colleges here as an international student.

and it seems that I'm looking at paying up to $25,000 if not more for tuition, housing etc based on the Colleges I looked at so I'm currently working at my second job and have about $4500 saved thus far. The reason I ask this is because many of the people I know of who are studying in the US are much older than me and have much more work/collegiate experience and I rarely see people my age emigrate anywhere so this post is also for those who are in their early 20s to make a noise or ten.

Please also understand that I am very very aware of the process of emigrating to the U.S., I'm asking what, based on the information I gave above, the likelihood is of someone my age/experience being able to get into a college/university or get work in the U.S. either to move there in the first place or after completing study, along with some miscellaneous questions like

- How much free time would one get at a community college?

- How much money would one have left over at a community college after paying the estimate sum I gave above?

- Are there many stories of young people successfully emigrating/studying and getting work after completing study in the U.S.?
