Immich creating pink thumbnails among other issues

New install of Immich and it's very slow creating thumbnails - Only popped out about 100 or so in the last 2 hours. And half of them are this pink noise.
This is a external library, a folder on another machine that immich has ro access to. Currently thinking of nuking the Immich install and starting over. FYI I had the same issue last year and gave up on immich, trying this again and seeing the same issues as before.
