So I'd say the best examples I can give of what I mean, in terms of my personal tastes/interests, would be of course La Dispute, Protest the Hero, Dresden Dolls/Amanda Palmer, Bright Eyes has some songs that fit, and maybe The Knife tho I haven't listened to them in ages...it doesn't have to be sad necessarily, or angry, or either. Just with real emotional intensity, definitely with powerful vocals. That doesn't necessarily mean screaming, La Dispute is like semi-spoken word but Jordan's vocals have incredible emotional power in terms of how raw and authentic they feel.
Screaming is perfectly alright, though, especially if it's something that's like built up to and is the climax of the song, or interspersed throughout the song. Post-hardcore is more my scene than straight up metal, but I'm open to metal if you think it might fit! Generally, I've always been a sucker for songs that build up/have a climax, Grizzly Bear has several songs like this, "Truce" by Dresden Dolls, even like "What's Up Danger" off the Spiderverse soundtrack haha.
Feminist topics are of particular interest to me right now for, uh, reasons, but really any music that can be an outlet for intense/negative feelings you think might fit my tastes is relevant. Thank you!
