Please help, spider production frozen

I have only recently started the game, but already I have a problem, my spider production is halted whenever I have the game on my screen, for some reason it seems to work when closed but the timer is just stuck on 4s etc. I haven't got it paused or anything, and I read something about there being too many minions on the field so I halted my gremlins but to no avail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I can provide more information if necessary, Many thanks.
