I have been through a very long and grueling Mill of diagnostic processes with repeated sleep studies and botched diagnoses but I just had my first sleep doctor diagnose me with PLMS and I think it's the answer! I have been harping on getting an IH diagnosis for so long that I wasn't seeing other possibilities. And I really didn't know a lot about. Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome. I still don't. But my sleep doctor has prescribed me ropinirole and I followed the treatment regimen he gave me which involves starting at 5 mg and slowly increasing one tablet at a time until you get an effect. Well I didn't know what the effect was that I was looking for. I know I don't have restless leg syndrome but I also know that sometimes I'm very active in my sleep. Sometimes I am dreaming of having a fight and wake myself up waving my arms in the air. Sometimes I wake up to a bed with the sheets at my feet practically off the bed. But it only happens sometimes

So I took one tablet, then two, then three with no noticeable effect. Beginning the fourth tablet started a series of nights where I slept not my usual 10 to 12 hours but only eight. And it happened three nights in a row. Then I had a 12-hour night. So I increased the dose to five tablets. I'm back to an 8 hour night.

I am still in the process of discovering what dose works. And five tablets is more than I'm supposed to take according to instructions but this is encouraging. This is the first time in a very long time that I have slept an 8 hour night without a nap during the daytime. It's looking like my IH with long sleeping is not really IH at all. It might be .
