4chan inspired quoting, which allows you to respond to multiple sibling-comments and notifies them of comment replies.
The pain point this solves is when you want to respond some one but also want to incorporate or critique points other people have already made, while also letting that person know someone has basically responded to them.
The syntax could be a really simple addition to the quote syntax and button:
>> 3f02gd (/u/thenightwassaved)
> Point x because y, z.
Listen OP, I think point z is a safety hazard....
Note the >> on the first line. The > on the second line is a standard quote and could be omitted completely. You can also stack enhanced quotes:
>> 3f02gd (/u/thenightwassaved)
>> 4g0ad2 (/u/spez)
This is a great idea!
The username doesn't have to be there during edit mode, and reddit could display the quote differently too on display-side. This (and because its technically still a quote) helps with legacy clients who wouldn't support enhanced quotes.
But importantly these replies will also show up in the quoted authors inbox.
This could technically be done with reddit gold via doing the username part as a /u/ link and then RES could properly insert and parse the enhanced quote syntax.
Thoughts?
