I was talking with my daughter this afternoon and something struck me & I thought I would share my insight(it may not be profound, it may be old news, but oh well!! Hehe)
I hear so much about how IF/Idaho is racist, that has 100% not been our experience-AT ALL!! I was genuinely quite confused.
However today as my daughter shared a story, I realized that many people here may be racially INSENSITIVE. Now, I dont believe they do it on purpose, everyone weve met has been genuinely naive/curious/etc. My family does not take offense to this since we are naive & curious in other ways, so we get it-plus, we dont take offense to much anyway, just how we are. We appreciate the curiosity, forgive the misteps, &even joke along with others(the racist jokes between my son & his friends π π€£)
Yet, I can absolutely see how someone not accustomed to it, who came from a more diverse place could take it the wrong way....but please dont!! These are mostly(almost everyone weve encountered-one exception was a transplant) good people who just want to know more about you! They want to understand and learn, so rather than being offended, just be patient & try to understand where they're coming from!! Maybe see it for what it really is & be flattered...someone cares enough to want to learn about you!!
Also, if something offends you, maybe gently let the person know that, I promise they likely don't mean to hurt or offend, good chance they just don't know what they're saying could be hurtful, because they haven't had those experiences before.
Just something that in thought i would pass along....hope it might help someone else moving here-or someone afraid to visit thinking it was the racist backwoods π
It's awesome that you're open minded and don't take offense easily, but we canβt ignore that ignorance sometimes perpetuates harrm.
