There are a lot of places to see this thing. Vermont is not that special. Lots of people will be watching it elsewhere.
Vermont hotels fill up all the time midwinter for holiday weekends and the infrastructure holds up fine. I-89 is overbuilt for Vermont.
Most of these people will not be skiing.
Have any of you ever been/skied in Vermont in April? Normally it's dead as hell. Like 50 people on the mountain levels of dead. Is the eclipse really going to bring out this whole group of skiers who quit in early March every year? NY area people think the season is over.
Already have a provisional plan on where I'm going with quick egress to an interstate highway. Wish me luck.
EDIT:
I will concede that local roads in and around Burlington will be nasty, and I could see there being isolated traffic jams at Jay and Stowe, but I just do not really see it happening much elsewhere. We'll see.
I know multiple people who think they're going to day trip this..... FROM NANTUCKET
93 in the area of Franconia Notch is going to be a war zone.

Everyone on earth is apparently going to be at Jay. I've had multiple people reach out in the past week to ask to crash with me in Orleans, that I'm definitely not close enough with to want staying on my couch. I will be avoiding the mountain, and I'm there 4 or more days a week.
