Students, if you see sudden price increases after 4/21, italki just set new minimum prices for teachers with NO advance notice.

Post Body

So I check my phone about 30 minutes ago and see an email I got from italki about an hour before that.

Starting from 21 April 2021, the minimum lesson price will change to $5 for Community Tutors and $10 for Professional Teachers.

Now the e-mail also states that most teachers already do prices higher than this but I know not all did. As a "professional teacher" my 60 minute lessons were priced over $10, sure, but my 30 minute lessons were slightly below.

This new minimum price rule does not take into account the length of a lesson so even 30 minute lessons now have to be priced over $10 which is going to affect roughly 1/3rd of my students. I don't know yet if it will be a deal-breaker for them. I've had to increase all my prices to stay relative to the new minimums.

I'm just very frustrated at the lack of notice to us teachers which means we couldn't give notice to our students to prepare them ahead of time. I thought some people who come here would appreciate a heads up without having to awkwardly ask their teachers directly.
