Auto license promotion???

Fairly new to iracing and have read the sporting code 5x over but this promotion thing is still confusing. For road, my SR is a 3.49 after my last race but afterwards I was automatically promoted to class D....I though the auto promotion was only if you get a SR of 4.0 or higher or at the end of the season....
