We all have one. That win that should've been comfortably yours but just managed to go up in a ball of smoke.
For me, it was back a few weeks ago with ARCA at Daytona. Had an 8 second lead on the final lap with a pack of about 3 lapped cars coming up on me. I hug the bottom line and 2 of the lapped guys roll past cleanly. I lift a little in hopes that the 3rd guy would pass me round the outside as well, but with plenty of time to react he simply slams into my rear end and I end up having to swallow a 3rd place finish.
He messages me post-race apologising profusely and saying he was just trying to give me a push and didnt notice I'd lifted as much as I had. We had a bit of a laugh about it without any hard feelings, but I didn't run another race for the rest of the week after that, I felt pretty crushed by it.
Even a few weeks down the line, it still irks me that the race was on a silver platter for me and it just got away from me because of a series of silly mishaps.
So, what's your race that got away from you?
