The current state of subreddit, moderation, and community complaints.
Post Body

So recently, I’ve seen a few people complain about the moderation in this subreddit, or lack there of moderation. It is also noted that there have been people to defend the moderators, stating that they are also human and have their own lives. We have seen these people be down voted, and their opinions have not been widely accepted by the community.

Firstly, we like to apologize. Now that the holiday season is upon us, many of the moderators including myself have obligations outside of Reddit. I am not using this as an excuse, I am simply stating a reason for lack there of activity on our part. Now with this being said, we do plan to look into introducing new moderators to the community. This is not an immediate solution, due to the fact that people have to apply, be screened, and ultimately accepted.

Secondly, we request that if you or anyone else has a problem with the community, that it be brought to a moderators attention. Now having said this, we don’t mean create a thread in the community, this can cause a “witch hunt” it does not help the situation. Instead, we ask that you reach out directly to a moderator, you can use Mod Mail and there you can voice your complaints. Unlike other communities the thread would have immediately been taken down, however, I don’t wish to stifle the communities voices. I would love to hear and hopefully address everyone’s complaints, and yet when a thread is created to publicly “attack” moderators for being humans is unacceptable within this community. I have left the thread up as a reminder for the moderators, but also as a warning to the community. After that thread, I as well as other moderators will not tolerate another “witch hunt” post. It will be promptly removed, and the person whom created it will be reached out to by myself or another moderator. We will discuss their complaint but will issue a warning as well, that if another public post is created in that manner the person will be removed from the community.

I understand that members within the community may find this unfair, or an abuse of power. However, think of it this way, you have a complaint with a coworker or a member of management. Now you go online, and you make a post bashing this person for not doing their job. Now the person in question is not meeting your standards of work, they have an issue with their personal life and your boss already knows about said issue. Your boss now sees the post and brings you in, seeing as I myself am a member of management I’m going to tell you what I would say to you. Depending on your overall performance, I would either tell you that the manner in which you raised concern was not professional and you could have come in and made a complaint to me directly. That or I would promptly reprimand you and write you up for your actions, the reason being you have publicly harassed someone for a matter they can’t control one in which they have already notified me of.

The above scenario is an example of what has occurred with the thread within our community, the creator of the post and everyone else that voiced their opinions today could have reached out. Before anyone says that they did, I have already checked my mod mail, and at this moment I believe only one person has said anything regarding the community. There were better ways to handle this situation that has occurred.

Finally, this post is an open discussion. I am saying that if anyone has any concerns that they be addressed here and now. From this point on after I make this post, I ask that any concerns not posted here be sent via mod mail to myself or any moderator.

Suggestions/Feedback on how we can improve this subreddit is all greatly appreciated.
