I want to make a dark, flat Star Wars theme. How the hell do I even get started?

I want to make icons like I said above. I love Odin'a fairly flat art style and I wanted to mimic it with a twist to the theme, Star Wars. Take it from the entire series. I, unfortunately, have no clue where to begin at all. I've never done computer art, never have truly photoshopped art images. I'm a bio major, and I want to contribute. Any help? Anyone else besides me interested?

I would like to sell it, but chances are I won't sell, but just release it. Copyright and everything; I'd rather not mess with that stuff.
