I recently made a post a few days ago in another subreddit and it talks about hygiene. I get a few compliments but mostly negative feedback from people saying that âI pity your skinâ and âmy scalp hurts just reading your postsâ and Iâm just shocked with the reaction and the downvotes I got lol. It wasnât even directly related to hygiene đ and nothing in my post is remotely looking down on anyoneâs preference.
For context, I live in Canada and admittedly I wash my hair daily and shower twice a day (shower in the AM helps me to wake up and makes me feel fresh and shower in the PM coz Iâve been out the whole day and I donât want to rub all that gunk in my bed) I use fresh wash cloth all the time and wash my beddings weekly and towels twice per week. Oral hygiene is very good (floss am and pm using standard and water pik) and brush again after lunch break.
To me hygiene is non negotiable but how come people are being so defensive and triggered by an innocent topic?
Update: thank you so much for the feedback and comments. To anyone struggling with mental health issues, I hope youâre getting the medical care you need.
However, to anyone who uses it as pretence to leave a nasty comment on this thread âbecause I want to be seen as cleanâ you are beyond redemption. Shame on you.
Did you downvote me for saying people need to shower after the gym even if no one is around to tell them they stink..? Is that what just occurred?
I know multiple people who are single and claim they donât stink. So they donât have anyone to âimpressâ but also they donât have anyone to tell them theyâre gross. This causes a feedback loop of people who say things like âI just went to the gym but I donât really sweat and I donât have BO so I donât need to showerâ.

This is it. I myself shower twice a day and have for years. If I ever donât shower as often (like Iâm so sick that itâs one shower a day and back to bed for the day) my skin actually gets worse. Including my scalp (although my scalp can take longer between washings, usually scrub it out every 2-3 days). My skin gets itchy if itâs not washed and hydrated daily and outside pollutants irritate my skin and can cause allergies and illness so they need to be cleaned off. In the morning itâs about washing off the evening time and waking up (and washing after morning bm); in the evening itâs about washing off outside pollutants, sweat, grime, stink, etc so that my sheets remain clean and healthy to sleep in. Reddit gets a little too triggered by people who shower an appropriate amount and itâs weird.
