As someone living in India, I often wonder about the trade-offs Indians face when moving abroad, especially to countries like the USA. Here, we pay high taxes, but despite that, the quality of life in certain aspects feels lacking. Also the caste census vs finding madir everywhere type politics, freebies, i don't think we are going much ahead.
On the other hand, life abroad has its own set of challenges.
For instance, in India, basic services like haircuts are so affordable. I’m not extremely wealthy, but I live comfortably with two maids, with my family close by and friends always around. These things add a kind of luxury to life that isn’t necessarily tied to money.
However, when I see friends who have moved abroad, I wonder: Does the money you earn there justify the quality of life you experience? Are you truly satisfied?
Sure, salaries might be higher, also lifestyle is good, country is cleaner and less pollution, but isn’t there a cost to that – dealing with racism, missing your family, and living without the cultural familiarity of India? Is the lifestyle abroad really worth what you’re giving up, or does it balance out in the end?
I’d love to hear from Indians living abroad – how do you feel about this trade-off?
