HOT House!
Post Body

Hi everyone, new to the sub and have a question.

I am living in a 100 year old house, very leaky pier and beam, single pane windows. I'm in Texas, very hot. My AC unit is in the attic, currently it is 93 outside headed for 103, and 130 in the attic, air at the register is 71 and the house is 82. Yesterday it was 88 at 5pm and was down to only 86 by 11pm. The AC runs 24/7, it is a pretty new system, about 5 years old I'm guessing, I'm just renting. There are 3 passive mushroom style vents toward the top of the roof, obviously they aren't super effective.

I was thinking I'd ask the landlord to have an hvac company to a check on the system but I was also thinking I'd look into solar powered replacements for those mushroom vents. Anyone have any experience with them? It SEEMS like they would help lower the temp in the attic. It has gotten as high as 140 up there. Our electric bill was over $500 last month and paying that much to sit here sweating just doesn't make sense to me.
