How do I cover a recessed ducted mini split intake?
Post Body

I recently had a ducted mini split installed in my bedroom as part of a larger renovation. The first HVAC tech crapped out and we had to finish with another guy. One part that was left undone/done wrong was the cover to my intake -- there is none. The part with the reusable filter is recessed about 5 inches. The first guy installed 4-5 inches of ducting work to extend that intake to the ceiling. Then he installed "regular" screw-in intake covers (for when your filter is accessible with the main unit). I didn't realize until he had bailed and I asked my general contractor, "you expect me to unscrew that every few months and clean the filter?" The GC he'd fix it. I removed it and have just had a hole in my ceiling since.

I told the GC that I wouldn't pay the final check until all the little things like that were done. He hasn't come back to finish the job.

I tried to get one of those intake covers that allow you to open them up and replace the filter. Unfortunately, the sheet metal work is a tiny bit too small -- about 0.5 inch in length and width.

What can I do? Hire someone to expand the duct/metal work? Or are there ducted mini split intake covers that I don't know about that are more easily removed to remove and clean the reusable filter?

Thanks.
