Vivint Thermostat is set to cool, outside unit is running and pushing into the air handler in the attic (I can hear it pushing inside).
I replaced the air filter in the house ceiling which wasn’t ridiculously dirty, and checked the circuit breakers, even the one on the air handler, all good.
I turned the power off to the air handler unit in the attic and removed the panel. Solid ice. Went back and turned the AC off, outside unit stopped. Completely thawed the ice with a hair dryer and switched power back on to everything. Including the handler, nothing changed. Outside unit runs but inside would not.
I powered off the handler again, spin the blower fan blade with my finger and powered it on, NOW the blower motor powers on and stays spinning and running. Go inside and check, voila, cold air blowing again. Go about my business and the house is cooling down until it’s hot. I check the vents, no air flow again.
Reset the thermostat by removing it and taking out the back up batteries, also did a reset to factory settings on it, no change.
I shut off the ac to keep it from freezing up again and open the windows and call it a night.
What are we thinking Internet? Test the capacitor for continuity? Could the blower motor be defective? I have very little experience with this stuff and just followed my dad’s directions on the phone. He’s just a jack of all trades type and mechanically inclined. Nothing else has changed.
