Post Body

Looking for your thoughts on this ductwork system. It is being replaced within the next week and would like any help I can get size/design wise Here are the details: Here are the details:

  • House Size: 1500 sq. ft.
  • Floors: 2 floors unfinished basement
  • Built: 1900s
  • Insulation: New spray foam around basement perimeter walls

  • Furnace: 60,000 Btu

  • Filter size: 16x25x1

  • Ductwork uninsulated

  • Supply trunk: 2 16x10 runs each side of the plenum

  • Return trunk: 1 16x10, some rounds coming off the plenum and going to joist panning

Issues: - Uneven heating - Hot and cold spots - Inadequate duct design - Lack of return registers

Questions: - is a 16x10 supply trunk adequate for a 1400 ft.Ā² home with a 60,000 Btu furnace? -how could this be setup so it no longer looks like 2 3rd graders and a kindergartner ran this job?

one entire half of the house has just 2 branches off of the supply trunk, 1 of which terminates to a floor register which is now covered by a kitchen cabinet rendering it useless and 0 return registers on that side. I would like to add 2 more supply registers and at least 1 return. I drew a quick sketch to give u an idea of what Iā€™m working with.

Please check out the attached pictures and floor plans. Any suggestions, improvements, or red flags?
