Is This Legal? Tax Lady concerns.....
Post Body

I’ve used H&R Block since I was 18....so that’s 18 years now. Several offices in several states and this year my tax preparer lady really made me uncomfortable. I used the same lady last year and she was just ok, I should have probably switched to a different location but I didn’t. I was called to come in and do my taxes yesterday. I’m self employed and file a Schedule C every year. In the beginning of last year I did receive a few thousand dollars in unemployment, plus the stimulus’s, plus the child tax credit for my one child. I wrote everything down and went in with all my math and numbers ready for her. She acted like she had to have proof of all of this and since she had my SSN and DOB and all my info for the tax stuff, she just takes it upon herself to log into my state unemployment system herself using my credentials! Using my email address she has on file. She did the same thing on the IRS website and sent me a link to reset my password, told me to give her the new password and she just goes in like she’s me to try and see what I was paid on the child tax credit. Even though I told her $250 a month June-December. I told her I have all my bank statements and can show her the deposits...the unemployment state website hasn’t even put out the forms yet for 2021. My boyfriend and I were looking at each other like what is going on....is this ok? She didn’t have my permission to do that, she just did it even though I had written down the payments I received and all my other income info she’d need. Then after all this she says she can’t submit it yet because the IRS hasn’t released the updated Schedule C form for this year. I don’t think that’s true, what it is is that the IRS isn’t accepting returns yet, next week will be a test batch until they start accepting all returns filed electronically on the 19th. So really she shouldn’t have asked me to even come in yet. I was a bit shocked she took it upon herself to log into my accounts from her work computer without even asking me. No tax preparer has ever done that. Is that even legal?
