Wasn’t really a joke, but a funny representation of this dilemma. Getting drunk to block out the situation in general. To have the courage to go through the awkward and painful situation he knew he was going into. Substance abuse is the easier path at times when it comes to facing and dealing with life. Sometimes it takes those times to come to your sober senses and have those hard conversations once you’ve realized the substance abuse did absolutely nothing to positively progress the situation at hand. Which in Ross’ case, waking up the next day with Joey, he was able to have a true heart to heart.
