So I've been living in another country. It's over a year since I've seen my family. I'm working a very low-wage job, saving up for a ticket. Asked my immediate supervisor when was the best time to take off, and she said 'this week', because there were a couple of legal holidays. Booked a ticket over those holidays, and would need 4 days off of actual vacation time. I needed about 9 or 10 days - 2-3 for travel and 7 in the USA. I sent her a message, letting her know I had booked the ticket, needed the 4 days off (in addition to the legal holidays and the weekend). Said I needed to know up to Friday at midnight, so I could cancel the booking. Heard nothing. Called her. No answer. Sent another message. No reply.
Saturday (today) I recieve a message that she wants me to take time off in July. No reference to her telling me 'do it this week'. No reference to my having said in my messages that I have till end of day Friday to cancel ticket.
I have now lost all the money I saved up, and will not be able to see family after all.
I'm normal now having taken (a rare occurrence) an anti-anxiety med. Haven't done that in a year or more.
This is going to wear off, need some help in NGAF.
Thank you. PS: I am going to speak to her boss, but am not holding out much hope that it will make any difference. Was supposed to depart on Tuesday early morning. Doesn't look like that is going to happen. Her reasoning (despite telling me to do it 'this week') is that they need time to find a sub for me. So not a lot of hope here.
Words of any kind welcome. Just feeling very sad.
PPS: Of course I am looking for something else. Better jobs are not easy to find. The only jobs really in demand around here are hi-tech. I'm teaching myself coding, but since I have to work, it's an on-my-own sort of deal, and not fast.
PPPS: Yes, she's been a backstabber before, but not this egregious. No, characterizing her that way to the head boss would do nothing - she's his right hand person. The best I can do is call it an 'unfortunate miscommunication'.
