Thank you all for your patience while houstonr4r was private. The blackout is still ongoing in some subs but I didn't want to leave the sub private without getting the users' input. Please answer the poll on whether you want to keep the sub open, or rejoin the blackout and stay private.

Here's a summary of the reasons for the blackout. Basically, reddit's API changes are destroying third party apps and breaking a bunch of moderation tools. The moderation tools are important to houstonr4r - they're the reason you see (hopefully) only a few fake/scammy posts on here, instead of the hundreds we remove per week. Reddit took down one of these tools, Pushshift, about a month ago, which broke my moderation scripts, and since then I've had to moderate this place manually. That takes a ton of time and isn't feasible for me to do in the long term.

If the sub stays open, I'm going to take a break from moderating until the moderation tools I need are restored (which could be never), so you might see more spam & fakes on here in the meantime. So be smart, don't fall for fakes, don't send anyone money, always meet in public. If you'd like to become a moderator, please send a message to modmail.
