I have found several full cast audio books which is primarily where this idea comes from, that's the foundation for my
house
So after we get a great cast we edit out all the textual footnotes that are Zampano's. We save them in a separate file, got this idea from what Audible did for Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace and similar books. Save the Truant footnotes because he is among the trio of narrators.
For Johnny's sections I want them to feel audio aesthetically different from the Navidson Record sections. Have all of his sections maybe faded in from Poe's album Haunted, or a similar independent eerie collection of music. For Johnny's voice actor/narrator it's necessary that he be raw, uncouth, unknown, to contrast it with a main Zampano narrator someone professional and polished.
I once found a very abridged experimental play of the Navidson Record produced by BBC, they called it "Recordings Recovered from the House of Leaves" They had actors playing Will, Karen, Tom, Reston, Holloway, etc. When I read Danielewski's screen play he had experts doing voice over critiques, we need both of those to complete our structure.
There
are
some
pages which have
only a
word
or two.
For that type I want the sound of a tape recorder starting and stopping between each page break.
There's the whole labyrinth section, for that I want many voices layered on top of each other, and then a radio dial tune in type of effect, and then a jarring switch to some more nonsense and then back to what we wanted to listen to.
Any ideas to add to my grand experiment, I made a petition a while back but Mark Danielewski or any audio publishers never saw it to my knowledge.
The reason why I am interested in an audio book project is because I am completely blind and use Braille primarily, and surprised Danielewski thought of tv before he even considered doing an audio book, because producing an audio book script in collaboration could get him closer to what he needed for a tv script.
