Iām only about 160 pages in so this might get discredited the further that I read. I got too impatient to wait til I was finished to ask but is it possible that Johnny is a paranoid schizophrenic? Iāve worked in mental health and some of the nonsensical tangents and delusions remind me of convos that Iāve had with my schizophrenic clients.
Heās having some sort of panic episode from an unseen force that he canāt fully describe. Is this a symptom of paranoid schizophrenia? Heās afraid of something that he canāt describe because itās all in his head?
Iāve come to realize that heās either lying or delusional about all the chicks that heās hooking up with. If these are all lies or just more of his āstoriesā then I can disregard that.
But mainly his delusional fear is what is making me think that heās succumbing to schizophrenia. Is it that the impossibility of the house is supposed to represent the delusional and illogic of a broken/schizophrenic mind?
UPDATE: I went back through and Iām reading the Appendices that I missed and 100% understand why everyone told me to do so. Thank you all for commenting!
Also Johnny is an unreliable narrator. A mixture of lies, imagination, paranoia, and a nervous breakdown make us question what is and isnāt real with Johnny. This also, in my opinion, is in alignment with schizophrenia.
Iām really just getting my thoughts out as this is my first read. Plz tell me what you all think or if Iāll find out more as I finish.
