Help!!! Brand new Sundance McKinley 680 problem...
Post Body

I keep getting FL-1 "Flow Error Open" and it won't pump anything through my first pump (circulating pump), second pump works fine. Both pumps have an extremely hot motor housing (I can tell they are on from the humming) but they aren't moving water. I can touch it for maybe a half second before it burns, the sales guy said that's unusually hot.

It's hardwired 240, I had a licensed electrician run the breaker/disconnect from my main panel to back patio.

I set the dipswitches appropriately to accommodate the 60A breaker configuration.

Sales guy suspected an air lock at first, so I kept trying the "on 5 seconds, off 5 seconds" method to try and make it "burp" is what he said. Then he had me try and bleed the system from the pump housing bleed knob, and also very lightly loosening both the suction/discharge unions, neither of which had "hissing air" coming from them, just water.

This is my very first tub, so I made a mistake when filling it by having the jets turned off. Sales guy told me to try draining it (used a submersible pump to do this, saw it recommended on another thread) and then refill it with all jets opened. He also said take out the filter assembly, and put the water hose down in the hole with a rag around it to seal it, he said this would force prime it.

So he came out this morning to look at it since his tech was busy. Before he got here to my house, I actually got the damn thing to work. Trying it last night got that motor really really hot (circulation pump is really hot, and secondary pump is just a tad cooler but still hot), but while draining last night the motors had a chance to cool down. So when I kicked it on this morning, eureka...everything worked...for about 15 minutes then I got the stupid flow error again and the motors felt very hot once again. Sales guy showed up and felt both motors and said "That's insanely hot, definitely don't turn it on until a tech can get here, I've never seen an issue like this on a brand new tub"

Now if I let it cool for 4-5 hours until housing feels normal, it will run if I turn it on again. The motor does have a clicking sound when I do this, so not sure what that is...

This is a brand new tub, and they can't get a damn tech out here until next week. This is aggravating as I had planned a hot tub gathering this weekend with some friends.

I am posting on here to see if anybody has any guesses as to what this issue may be, I feel like the pump might be overheating and just failing to operate, maybe an obstruction in the line causing poor flow in the suction side? Maybe the wiring job is just pumping too much juice into the motors? This is frustrating as hell, but I know there are some big brains on here!

Thanks in advance!

***FIXED*** - GFCI disconnect panel was wired incorrectly, need to ensure both hots are sending 120v to the tub to make it 240v, tub was drawing on only one leg of hot 120v and probably tons of amps. Ensure the disconnect panel is wired correctly! Thanks to u/wuice!!!
