Seeking guidance on a hot tub for the backyard
Post Body

So I've been sifting this sub for a couple of days and there is a ton of information to try to digest and I'm hoping I can get a little guidance to narrow things down.

I just began a backyard hardscape renovation and as a part of it I'm putting a platform down for a hot tub. I've lived with an inflatable one for a couple of years and liked the experience fine, but I want a nicer looking solution for this project that isn't a piece of crap.

When I soak, I tend to not even like the jets on, just the hot water, but perhaps that is because I haven't experienced a good tub. I'd like it to seat 5-7 and adults and don't want it to be much more expensive then it needs to be.

I'm not against plug and play, but I'm going to have to have an electrician out anyway to do my yard lighting, so I'm not totally against a 220v outdoor sub panel.

I want it to looks nice and inviting, maybe have some mood setting LEDs and not break the bank. I've read that for what I'm wanting I should consider used (facebook market place) which is a higher bang for the buck or Costco... What do you guys think?

Thank you very much for taking the time to type this up. I am located on Long Island, NY so that should open up other brands, as you suggest, being a warmer climate overall.

It sounds like you are a believer in going through a dealer for the tub, which is likely a good approach to take. I had wondered if something like Costco might be a better value, if I could find an installer or perhaps going used, but in this case, where I do have a lot of questions unanswered, perhaps a dealer is a good option.

Interesting your analysis of them all being similar overall with some advantages and disadvantages. I will try to keep that in mind and avoid stressing too much.

The pad is already included in my pricing for the renovation and I don't imagine the add-on sub panel will break the bank too badly as it will be about 5 feet from my indoor panel and I need to do electrical anyway for this project. For the tub itself I'd probably want to be south of $10k... the south-er the better.

It is indeed, but I've got about 25 feet of 6/3 left over from running an EV charger at least, so that should offset things, but yes--I know the state of trying to get a contractor/electrician these days... Half these people friggin' ghost you, if they ever call you back in the first place.
