I travel for work. Since work pays I don't have a choice on where I stay, so I have to make the best of wherever this may be. For the most part, it's always a downtown, city location in either a Marriott/SPG, Hilton or Hyatt branded hotel at the mid to high end.
I've been at this nearly 25 years with my company, and I can say with certainty that Marriot's brand Westin, has become my most despised place to stay. It's consistently bad. I'm wondering if there are any other frequent business travelers that feel this way. Going back maybe 10 years, I remember walking into a Westin and thinking how nice they always smelled and that I knew the room would be reliable: clean, air conditioner worked, decent mattress/bedding. I don't need elaborate room service, roof top bars, etc, just the 3 pillars that I mentioned. Simple.
Just checked out of the Westin at Long Beach, CA. My bath tub was filthy (I had to clean it myself, the desk agent blamed it on old plumbing), the air conditioner was typical of Westin (the number on the thermostat is there purely to placate you, the room will be 70 when requesting 63) and over-all a grimy room. The front desk agent provided me with breakfast voucher for my trouble (knowing that I don't book my own hotel and that my company is a giant corporate client- GIANT), so bonvoy points weren't happening. And what's up with the crappy "rain" shower heads? They are old and drool out water, straight down on top of my head! Who wants that! Who on earth would want a shower head like that! The geometry just doesn't work, never has, complete gimmick.
I post because this has become so typical that I'm curious to know if anyone else out there feels the same. If I'm making the reservation for my own travel, I'm avoiding Westins at all cost.
Westins I frequent, but would avoid if I could:
