Virpil Alpha HOSAS for Rocket League
Post Body

Ok guys, hear me out. I bet most play flight sims, but I also bet some here play Rocket League as well. As members of this subreddit I trust you guys/gals have a strong understanding of the sticks themselves and this is why I am directing my questions and thoughts towards you and not the RL community.

So I am semi-seriously considering using a HOSAS system from Virpil for Rocket League. Mainly the bases give plenty of tuning options for how the stick responds and returns to zero.

In my mind I would map the sticks in one of two ways:

Option 1) Right stick handles ground turning with acceleration and boost on some analog triggers. Reverse could be on a button. Flight control would include roll and pitch on right stick, left stick would have yaw to keep movement accurate (also not hurting your wrist in fast movement). Quick chats and camera movement could be on the crown sticks for the thumb. There would be a clear benefit to having analog movements to air roll in a very intuitive way.

Option 2) Left stick handles ground movement (would prefer throttle and boost to be in triggers, not stick movement), while the right stick would handle all flight movements with twisting the stick for yaw. I could see this being beneficial for the slight adjustments in speed flip kickoffs having a ~5 degree turn before jumping into the ~15 degree diagonal flip before cancelling. You could essentially prime your aerial direction before leaving the ground (for example turning left with having a right banking takeoff ready before jumping).

While I have envisioned extremely precise aerial control including easier flip resets, air dribbles etc, I can see how the sticks would be slower to flick around for speedflips, halfflips etc, as well as slower to return to neutral for fast aerial takeoffs. Maybe these can be countered somehow? For example for a flip cancel maybe I could macro a button to reverse the stick's Y-axis input while the button is pressed, or something.

Please help. I am well aware that pros use controllers and that is the way the game was "meant" to be played. But what if these could actually work, even help? Maybe? Looking for thoughts and ideas. Thanks!

PS: I am champ2, peaked champ3 in Hoops if either makes any difference.
