Life of a Space Force Captain: Is there any benefit to allying with the Purists?

I honestly can't see the benefit of allying with what I can only describe as the KKK of the book. They don't want anything to do with the other races, so I can't imagine they have any advanced technology, and what's more, the majority, if not all, the options that please them piss off the other races, meaning I sacrifice anything I'd get from them for the Purists.
I haven't sided with them in any of my playthroughs, so I don't know. Can someone please explain?
