Brother age 69 is in hospice (Brooklyn, NY). It's a long story how he got to where he is now. He's been in hospice for almost a month. Lungs are shot: long years of smoking, lack of exercise and then Covid induced pneumonia. A week ago he was somewhat lucid. Now he doesn't recognize his wife which is devastating to her.
The medical team has been great. Problem is that every time they try to put in an intravenous, he rips it out so it's hard to give him any kind of comforting medicine. They have to give him valium and morphine with a shot.
He's not eating or drinking. He is now just wasting away. It's incredible difficult for his wife and I would imagine, him. He's suffering.
HERE'S THE BLUNT QUESTION: Can we ask the medical team to do something/anything to hasten his passing? His wife is worn out from all of this. If so, what do we say to the medical team?
Any advice is welcome. Thank you.
