For me, it's anything to do with vampires. I can't explain how disappointing it is to find out the book I'm interested in has vampire elements. Ugh. King's Salem's Lot, solid 5 stars, was a test of my mental endurance.
I don't know how to describe it in keywords, but essentially I don't like anything where parents are looking for their missing kid, or where parents are worried about their evil or possessed kid, or where they're hunting the monster that killed their kid.
I like it when the protagonists ARE children, and I dont mind when there are children in the story. I just really don't want to read anything where the main thrust of the plot is about a child from their parent's perspective.
