Obvious spoilers for the movie.
Watched this last night as it finally got put on UK Netflix. Really really enjoyed it and went a lot deeper (pun?) than I expected it to.
Had a search in this sub and while there has been plenty of discussion about it, I couldn't really see any discussion about what was actually going on in the movie, and what we think might have been going on.
Obviously there is a huge element of mystery in these found footage films, and it's nice to not have everything expounded, but I think there is enough shown to have a good guess at some of the lore implications.
In terms of Flamel, and the fact that his body on earth had not rotted, but his body in hell had. Was this a kind of 'Dorian Gray' situation from using the stone? Or is there some sort of soul or body switching done after using the stone? (Tbh I've been watching FMA:B again so I'm done thinking about stones)
On the subject of doppelgangers, La Taupe and the woman from the ceremony also appeared on the other version of the catacombs. La Taupe had ventured into the deeper parts of the system, but was the woman's presence involved with her involvement in rituals? Were they linked to these doppelgangers, or were their souls no longer on earth (Papillon saying that La Taupe is different).
And what about the stone (back to stones)? I thought that the stone is something you can't actually take with you back to earth. It's power didn't work once they crossed over into hell, and there was no doppelganger of it in hell. Is it more that you can only take the power of the stone, but not the stone itself?
Anyone else any thoughts on this? I love lore in horror movies, especially historical and religious stuff that is based on real world myths.
