Outside of Horror being my favorite genre, recently Iâve been obsessed with having my mind completely fucked by films that reveal plot twists.
Two films that I always heard had great twists were The Sixth Sense (1999) and The Mist (2007). Maybe it was the expectation but over the weekend I watched these films and both of them left me extremely disappointed with the supposed âplot-twistâ ending.
The Sixth Sense had the perfect creepy aura for a 90âs classic. I was in such anticipation for what was to come that by the time the credits were rolling, I realized Iâd guessed the ending midway through the film and was left feeling completely disgusted at how easily the twist gave itself away. I think had I watched this during its original theatrical run in â99, I mightâve partly enjoyed it but seeing it in 2024 felt like a slow burning who-dun-it with a lackluster reveal.
The Mist was already on my to watch list because I absolutely adore the work of Stephen King! The story at least kept me more interested and invested than Sixth Sense but the climax was so rushed that the twist just left me with questions. They couldnât have waited 90 more seconds? Why didnât they shoot themselves so he wouldnât have to carry the burden? They drove until the gas was empty and saw nobody then all of a sudden troves of tanks, planes, and armed men just appear? The ending felt cheap and rushed which was so annoying because there was so much tension to build off of once they realized they were out of gas in the middle of the mist!
I want to know what are some of your favorite plot twists in films so I can check them out! And who would you say executed it the best?
